If you need a reason not to vote for anyone in the conservative party this election, here’s a big one.
Richard Mourdock, a candidate for the U.S. Senate in Indiana, publicly stated that pregnancy resulting from rape is something “God intended to happen.” Yep, this man, who could very well be a senator said that God intends for women to get pregnant after they get raped. Mitt Romney has distanced himself from Mourdock, but the fact is, this man still made an unbelievably awful statement. He could very well be elected. We’ve asked this before, but what the hell is going on in this country?
While Mourdock certainly isn’t the first politician to make such awful, vile comments regarding pregnancy resulting from rape while claiming to be pro-life, this is still inexcusable. He’s playing on people’s beliefs by throwing God into his comments, which is wrong. It’s so easy to make fun of Christianity thanks to people like Mourdock, Kirk Cameron and The Westboro Baptist Church, but there are Christians who do really believe in their faith and don’t spew hate. There are some people who are new to the faith and aren’t sure what to believe, and sadly, the three examples we listed are the most public. It’s so disgusting that these men are using people’s spiritual beliefs to win an election. You don’t have to agree with their beliefs, but you have to admit, that’s so wrong.
The biggest thing is that these politicians, the Ryans, the Akins, and the Mourdocks are also admitting to being pro-rape by making these awful statements. They still believe that if a woman gets raped, she’s asking for it. And by getting pregnant, she really deserved it. No. Let’s repeat once again: no one deserves to be raped. Pregnancy from rape is not part of God’s plan. Women, we do not want these men in office. We do not want these men telling us that if we get raped, it’s our fault. We do not want these men telling us what to do with our bodies. This is is why we need to vote on November 6th. How many more politicians are going to get away with these statements? What’s going to happen if they get in to power? We don’t want to find out.
What’s your take, LivLunatics? Has Mourdock motivated you to vote on November 6th?
