Savvy Summer Haircare

icon-userAuthor: Sabrina Taylor

People always complain about the winter destroying their hair, but what about the summer? Days spent lounging at the beach with sea salt-soaked hair can leave your locks looking less than stellar. So, to avoid dry, brittle hair this summer season, give one of these hair masks a try!

rsz_-4For Dry Hair

To pump some more moisture in your hair and stave off split ends, you will need:

– 1/2 Cup Mayonnaise (the real stuff!)

– 2 Tablespoons Raw Honey

Combine your two ingredients in a bowl and give them a good stir so they come together nicely. The consistency should be a little tacky, but manageable to run through your hair.

Coat your hair with the entire contents of your bowl, really focussing on your roots and tips. Plastic wrap your head and let the goodness soak in for the next 30 minutes.

To wash out of your hair, simply shampoo as usual. You’ll love how silky smooth your hair feels and looks afterwards.

Mayonnaise is full of fats and proteins that help strengthen your hair against future breakages. Honey is the moisture locking ingredient that nourishes dry hair back to life.

For Frizzy Hair

Heat and humidity usually lead to frizzy hair, but not when you apply this mask weekly! Grab:

– 1 Ripe Avocado

– 2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

– 1 Tablespoon Raw Honey

Mash together your avocado, coconut oil and honey in a small bowl. Really beat all the avocado clumps out before using it.

Slather your mask all over your hair and use a wide-toothed comb to really work it in. Cover it up with plastic wrap for 30  minutes and wait for the magic to happen.

Shampoo your mask out of your hair and enjoy frizz-free hair.

Avocados are full of healthy fats and vitamin E so it both nourishes and strengthens your hair. The honey locks in moisture and the coconut oil adds extra moisture and a subtle, glossy sheen to our tresses.

For Lifeless Hair

Like I said earlier, sea salt-soaked hair can really weigh you down. Along with the daily use of toxic hair products and pollution, your hair may need a deep cleanse. The best way to do that is strip it down to the bare necessities.

You will only need two items for this:

– 1 Part Baking Soda

– 2 Parts Water

How much hair you have really determines how much of each ingredient you need. Start off by using tablespoon equivalents and add as need for longer hair.

All you have to do is mix this together, run it through your hair and let it sit for 15 minutes – no longer! You don’t want to suck the life out of your hair; just the product!

Shampoo as usual and let your hair air dry. Baking soda is such a strong natural cleanser that hair drying may cause damage to it right off the bat.

Baking soda is great for gently clearing away dirt and grease from your scalp and exfoliating product from your hair. You’ll notice more voluminous locks almost immediately.

Don’t let all that summer fun lead to lackluster locks! Care for your hair and look your very best all year round.
