If you love the feel of silk, but are vegan, or don’t like that silk is so expensive and high maintenance, then we have found the perfect eco friendly fabric for you: Cupro.
It feels super silky, and if you get it stained, you can wash it in the delicate cycle, even dry it, and it won’t get ruined, unlike most of the silk clothing we’ve tried to wash ourselves. Goodbye expensive dry cleaning bills, and hello low maintenance flowy silky sustainable maxi dress!
Cupro is a byproduct of cotton and wood production. Our Popomomo Desert Dress is made from Birchwood cellulose, so it is perfect for hot weather, as it drapes beautifully and flowy, and allows your body to breathe, and regulate it’s temperature. There’s nothing worse than feeling claustrophobic and sweaty in some tight polyester…
n. 1 a: A regenerated cellulose fiber derived from cotton linter (the ultrafine, silky fibers that stick to the seeds of the cotton plant after it’s been ginned) that has been dissolved in a solution of ammonia and copper oxide. b: It is similar to rayon, but breathes and regulates body temperature like cotton. c: Often used as a silk substitute, cupro is noted for its ability to create beautifully draped clothing, except it can be machine-washed and -dried. d: A European relative of Tencel, cupro is a hypoallergenic, antistatic fabric that is resistant to stretching out of shape at higher temperatures.
Popomomo Desert Dress is available in Burnt Orange and Army. Sewn, dyed and printed sustainably and locally in L.A. using eco-friendly fabrics. Made from 100% Cupro.
