Monday, March 5th was an exciting evening for LivLuna as it was our premier, members only event How to Create the LOVE You Want! Held at the beautiful 1920 Bunker Club in NYC’s Meatpacking District, we enjoyed an evening of networking, making new friends and listening to inspiring and powerful speakers while sipping on delicious cocktails in the former speakeasy (complete with faux bookshelf!). Some of us ordered drinks, others food from Bill’s Burgers upstairs.
Up on the street level, security guards stood behind a velvet rope and manned the hidden entrance. It was a LivLuna members only event, and it was AWESOME! Not only were we celebrating the 101st anniversary of International Women’s Day, we were celebrating our power to create the love (and life) we want!
We all had a ball–Ambassador Christina was busy snapping photos and mingling with members, Ambassador Kathleen chatted up our members and learned about more of what you want to see on the site, and Founder/CEO Maria greeted everyone, meeting as many kicka** LivLuna members as possible.
Suddenly, it was time for the main event–our speakers!
Stand up comedian and MC Marla Shultz was hilarious, and started off with some belly-laugh-inducing comedy. Marla kept good momentum in between speakers, lightening the sometimes heavy topics with fresh bursts of laughter and humor, joking about her own life growing up on Long Island and looking for love in the wrong places.
The first speaker of the night, Elena Brower, celebrated yogi, Founder of ViraYoga and Art of Attention, sat on the floor, speaking in a low, intimate tone, creating a zen-like atmosphere while she spoke profoundly about her personal journey in love, and letting go–letting go of anger and blame. Family guilt, anger, negative patterns all affect our relationships, and we often project our pain without even realizing it. “Once we stop blaming others for our shit, we can really begin to love ourselves.”
Luscious Lifestyle Diva, Yolanda Shoshana, aka Shoshi, was rocking the house in her wild python print over the knee boots, and her belief in manifesting the right kind of love for yourself, and not letting someone who doesn’t lift you up be a part of your journey. Though she started with a rather infamous quote from the 1996 film Jerry Maguire–“You complete me.” Shoshi was not having it. “YOU complete you!” she reminded the audience. “When you’re doing you, you’re doing your own damn thang! It’s magic!” she proclaimed to a collection of supportive hoots and hollers from the audience.
LivLuna CEO & Founder Maria Olson Goins gave a very personal talk about her past, her struggle with learning to love herself, and her journey to free herself from depression, and self-destruction. “You don’t stop loving the other person when they hurt or betray you. You keep loving them. You just stop loving yourself… You chip away at that self-love until you’re left with a raging internal war”. Maria ended with inspiring words for all… “Start loving yourself now the way you want and deserve to be loved. You have the power within you. Find your voice, live your core mission, live true to yourself, LivLuna!”
LivLunatics were moved and inspired by the speakers and really opened up in the Q&A, asking personal and profound questions that really created a vibe of shared intimacy and support in the room. Nothing was off limits, and the speakers gave wonderful answers that some people typed into their phones, as pointers to help them create the love they want.
At the end, we gave out our coveted gift bags with goodies, treats, and exclusive discount codes from our event sponsors Pangea Organics, Juice Beauty, sweetriot and Peeled Snacks. LivLunatics were smiling, happy, motivated and inspired, as they skipped out onto the cobblestone-lined street in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.
Thanks again to our AWESOME SPEAKERS Elena Brower, Yolanda Shoshana & MC Marla Schultz. And thank you Alden Wicker for taking great pics of the event! (the slideshow is below!)
